Patrick Taylor
A northern Irish author, already a New York Times Bestseller. It follows the story of Barry Laverty MD, a recent med graduate who lands a position as assistant in a small rural practice where he meets a host of eccentric characters who make each day an education. He learns about the quirks of country life, the compassion, comedy and a touch of the Blarney, as he learns of life, love and more than med school ever promised.

I recently read this novel and found it to be a very interesting book concerning an Irish-Anglo family in the 1800s.It deals with the problems of the Irish during the often violent "land-reform" which he feels lead to the fight for Irish Independence. It is of course, also a story of unrequited love.Suggested by Bettylou Reed
